Granada Likes and dislikes

Granada Nicaragua likes and dislikes

Likes

  •  People come to your door selling you almost everything you need: water, produce, dvd's, cleaning supplies, gas, cream milk and cheese, home security systems
  • The weather is great, a bit hot, but its always warm and almost always sunny!
  • The house is open air. It is so lovely to see the sky when I'm hanging out in my living room
  • Super kid friendly-everyone is very welcoming and accepting of children. My boys can run around any public place including restaurants and the locals are totally fine with it. I used to try to calm them down, but every body would always say "No te preocupes"or "Tranquila"
  • Granada is a super walkable city
  • Beaches are close by
  • The grocery store has almost all the things I want from home like peanut butter and plain yogurt
  • Labor is cheap so getting a babysitter or house cleaner is shockingly affordable
  • Its easy to learn or improve your spanish because not too many people speak english and they are almost universally nice about helping you communicate

Dislikes
  • Someone is always at your door asking you for something! selling you something or begging for money or whatever
  • HOT! Its hot and dusty
  • Lots of roaches and mice in the house
  • Transportation is really expensive-to get out of town with a private driver will cost at least $40. Chicken buses are definitely a cheap alternative, but seemed a bit daunting with the boys
  • I really missed Trader Joe's
  • I feel guilty about how little people make down there. We hired a baby sitter for 4 kids for 3 hours and paid her $12. I was told this was too much money to pay but it felt like far too little.
  • Going out to dinner was surprisingly expensive, as was lodging and so much of it seems to be foreign owned

  1. Love your thoughts on your experience. Thanks so much for sharing! Makes me dream of being far away… maybe I should really look into guest-instructing at the gym in Grenada! :-D
